Volvo EC380E Straight Boom dedicated demolition excavator is a new factory configuration version of the company's standard EC380E machine. This straight-arm configuration provides operators with a larger working range at height than the standard model. Other key features include guards, hydraulic detachable counterweights, dust-proof systems, and factory-installed fully automatic coupler options.

This demolition excavator has a 23-foot (7 m) straight arm and has a larger reach than the traditional 380 machine.

"When our customers require increased coverage without sacrificing stability or performance, we will strive to achieve this goal," said Tony den Hoed, National Demolition Account Director. "The EC380E straight arm is a great example. Increasing coverage while protecting operators means that demolition contractors can now take on more challenging tasks with complete confidence."

The cab is protected from falling debris by a falling object guard installed on the frame, and thanks to the large windows with wipers and gaskets, the operator can see the work site well. The sunroof and the front integral glass are made of P5A, which has the ability to resist high-strength impact.

Standard LED lights on the cantilever and platform help visibility at night, and can optionally be used for additional lighting for the cab and counterweight.

The highly reinforced main frame is made of heavy-duty steel plate with bolt head protection. It also has heavy-duty undercover protection, durable abdomen protection and complete track protection. Slewing ring covers and heavy-duty side doors with screens and shutters provide additional protection. The bolt-on side impact protection system protects the upper structure from damage, and further protects the machine from debris damage through additional protection of the bucket and boom cylinder. The reversible cooling fan expels any debris stuck in the radiator, helping to keep the radiator clean and the engine running at an optimal temperature.

Thanks to the 22,046 lb (10,000 kg) counterweight, the EC380E straight arm can perform demolition tasks at a higher range using heavy tools. The counterweight can be hydraulically disassembled to transport the excavator.

Standard features include X1 and X3 auxiliary pipes, quick installation and drain pipes, and water pipes connected to the dust removal system. The dust suppression system is equipped with a 7.9 gpm (30 liters per minute) lift pump that delivers water to four arm-based nozzles to produce a fine mist to contain the dust. The system can work in manual or automatic mode, where water is sprayed only when the accessory is running. The system is also equipped with a high-pressure water gun installed behind the cab to clean the machine.

In order to make full use of the machine, the owner can install Steelwrist or OilQuick automatic quick couplings in the factory. Owners can still fix the tool without Steelwrist or OilQuick connectors, or they can equip their machines with Volvo quick connectors.

Traditionally, waste management companies have used simple "waste management" methods to operate MRFs. Throughput goals and continuous operation (minimum downtime) are the main driving forces. However, the industry has changed, and the focus of the future is to optimize system performance and reliability, while increasing recycling rates and promoting a "greener" and more sustainable tomorrow.

When considering adding or upgrading "smart" MRF for municipalities or private operators, the main factor should always be the current requirements of the customer (operator) and the changing market needs, including throughput, reliability, output quality, and adaptation sex. It is also important to fully understand the true expectations of any proposed system. Participating in and focusing on the project with the client from the beginning will influence and drive the entire design process. This then affects the overall project results, down to the production, efficiency and continuous operation of the facility itself.
