Spray guns are fun until your cordless spray gun starts to work. You put it on, put in the right paint, and the needle starts spraying paint everywhere.

Then you're like,'Gosh, what the hell is this.

On the one hand, you start to worry about the goods you will receive. On the other hand, you are also worried about waste of paint.

In the end, you just need to put the whole thing aside and start looking for a quick solution. Look no further; this article contains everything you need to know about spray gun spray causes and quick fixes.

Possible causes of spray gun spray

1. The compressor pressure is too low

If the pressure at the outlet of the spray gun compressor is too low, it is almost impossible to achieve paint atomization. If there is no atomization, you will get only tiny droplets instead of the fine mist you need.

The simple solution here is to increase the air pressure leaving the compressor. The higher the pressure, the greater the paint atomization and the better the paint flow pattern.

Don't know how to increase compressor pressure? Read your spray gun instruction manual.

2. The paint dilution ratio is wrong

Whether you are spray tanning, tattooing, makeup, material painting, or anything you own, you need to maintain a certain paint dilution ratio to ensure that your paint does not become too thick.

For thick paints, fogging is almost impossible. Even if you manage to make a thick paint under the huge compressor pressure, it may appear as a splash instead of a fine paste.

When you find that you are using too thick paint, the best way to reduce splashing is to increase the compressor pressure. However, this may sometimes not be enough to completely eliminate spitting.

It is better to make the paint thinner and then work under the lowest possible pressure. This will guarantee the best results.

When using a new paint brand, you may need to test different dilution ratios and air pressures to see which works best before starting work.

3. No burst of air is used to clean the nozzle

After spraying the gun for a period of time, a small amount of paint will accumulate in the nozzle and needle area, which is normal. Experienced artists know to use a burst of air to remove these leftovers.

If you fail to remove the remaining paint immediately after use, it will clog the nozzle and needle, thereby interfering with the paint pattern the next time you want to spray the gun.

How to clean the spray gun nozzle with a burst of air? Simply press the trigger when the spray gun is empty, and a burst of air and any remaining paint can be sprayed.

Remember how you cleaned your home deeply every spring? Well, this is what you want to clean the spray gun when you notice it sprays paint.

First, you should completely remove the needle, nozzle, hose, and tip of the spray gun from the entire device. Then, let the nozzle and the front of the spray gun sit in the thinner for several hours. This should help remove remaining paint and debris that may prevent the correct paint flow pattern.

4. Paint drying

Many times, some paint dries out before reaching the tip of the spray gun. This is most common in acrylic paints. If you use this type of paint spray gun, your paint pattern may be a little strange.

Unfortunately, not all paints can be used with spray guns. Some paints are just not suitable for this purpose. If you find that the spray gun is spraying, you should check whether the paint is designed for the spray gun.

If you are not sure, you should probably go back to a paint you have used and trusted before. For beginners who have not sprayed any paint before, you should ask someone who knows better than you.

If you change the paint and still have the problem of spitting, it is obviously not a paint problem. Therefore, please check other possible causes and repair methods.

5. Bad needle or nozzle

Obviously, when the needle or nozzle is damaged, the paint flow pattern will be affected.

If you have spitting and splashing, you should check your spray gun needle or nozzle for damage.

Inspect your needle and nozzle thoroughly to determine if there are cracks, dents, bumps, or any inappropriate places.

If you can't see much with the naked eye, please view the part under a good magnification.

6. Impurities in the air hose

The air hose transports air from the compressor to the spray gun. When impurities such as moisture or debris stay in the hose, it may cause inconsistent paint flow patterns.

The most common impurity that often enters the air hose is water. The best way to solve this problem is to install a water trap somewhere in the compressor or at the inlet of the spray gun.

7. Loose fittings

There are fittings almost everywhere on spray guns, from hose fittings to compressor outlets, nozzle and needle fittings to spray gun tips.

If any of these fittings are loose, it may cause the air pressure to drop. When this happens, there will be inconsistent spray patterns.

This is easy to repair; you only need to look deeply into every joint and connection on the spray gun to see if any parts are loose. You can start from the compressor outlet, look through the hose, and then move down to the needle area.

If you can't see anything broken or loose, please check with your second eye. You will never know; they may find what you missed.
