2021 Porsche 718 Boxster 25-year video review: really so good

Responses to the Porsche Boxster ranged from "high-priced posing" to "Porsche's best sports car". I'm somewhere in the middle-the first time I drove the Hyundai Boxster, I drove the highly optional GTS 4.0. This is an incredible vehicle with the only drawbacks being the amazing price and the close fit The bucket seats and too many bright black tones. like.

Porsche has obviously been reading my dream diary, because the 2021 718 Boxster 25 Years solves all the problems that I don’t like GTS 4.0 without touching the good things. Created to celebrate the anniversary of the same name, 25 Years is painted with GT Silver paint (itself is the historical color of the Carrera GT supercar), with a monotone Bordeaux red interior and matching roof. The front bumper, side air intakes and special anniversary wheels are decorated in pale gold, reminiscent of the original Boxster show car in 1993. Black interiors are available, and black or white exterior colors are also available, but please do yourself a favor and use the painting with retro.

In any color scheme, Boxster 25 Years is a very comfortable machine. We began to look forward to the unparalleled interior structure of Hyundai Porsche. This special 718 is decorated with leather on the dashboard, center console, window sills and seats, and soft-touch plastics are used almost everywhere else. The real aluminum decoration and golden 25-year badge make the design more vivid. The only drawback is Boxster's somewhat outdated PCM infotainment software. It lacks Android Auto and requires a wire to connect to Apple CarPlay.

Under the styling in 1993 (and the aping technology in 2013), it was equipped with a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine of GTS in 25 years, using manual transmission or 317 using dual clutch to make the same 394 horsepower and 309 pound-feet automatic. My tester features the former, which means I have six delightful choices of smooth gears under my right hand, and well-placed pedals for heel-to-toe downshifts. However, the standard Sport Chrono kit precedes me in this respect, and the automatic speed matching makes me look more talented than me. According to Porsche, putting all these together, 25 years will reach 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds.

This is certainly not slower than any imagination, but it is not particularly noticeable at the starting price of Boxster 25 Years at US$101,450 (including the destination fee of US$1,350). However, I suspect that Porsche’s numbers are a bit conservative, partly because it is a German company and partly because this 718 variant feels too fast when driving. The six-speed gear is high-second gear is about 85 miles per hour-but it can still start quickly, and the slight rear weight offset helps push the rear tires into the ground.

When you step on the accelerator, it is best to make sure to activate the standard sports exhaust. In doing so, God will use the baritone saxophone to play jazz, which is an addictive and sweet bellows. Most importantly, the naturally aspirated six-cylinder music is the biggest reason to choose this 718 or its GTS similar product rather than any other member of the Boxster family. To be honest, the exhaust sound may be what makes 25 Years feel so emotional and fast-when it sounds so good, who cares how fast it is?

Buying the new Porsche 718 Boxster can save an average of more than US$3,400 from the manufacturer’s suggested retail price*

When the straight road becomes tortuous, this 718 will not avoid it. Porsche is one of the first companies to truly adopt an electric power steering system, and Boxster will remind its drivers of this by each additional lock level. Entering a corner is straightforward, and there is a lot of communication about tire restrictions and the road, so it's easy to become very confident. Like other mid-engine sports cars, the Boxster 25 Years has excellent balance in corners, allowing me to tighten the corner exit by relaxing the throttle-all without worrying about sudden oversteer.

Hard, carefully adjusted straps in every corner add to the appeal. The Porsche Active Suspension Management System is a $290 option for 25 years, bringing two modes of shock absorbers and a fixed, 20mm lower ride height to the party. In the most sporty environment, the shock absorber provides a lot of feedback to the driver (but almost no harshness), and can keep the tires in sync with the road even on different roads.

Porsche will not provide a ceramic brake kit in the anniversary edition, but I did not miss it (except for the large amount of brake dust generated by standard brakes). I whipped the Boxster on fast hilly terrain all day for 25 years and found zero signs of fading or inconsistency, which eventually led me to believe that carbon ceramic brakes are usually excessive for street cars (such as the GTS I drove last year).

As well as Boxster's performance in the canyon, it is not a one-trick pony. These dual-mode shock absorbers provide surprisingly smooth, well-damped driving on the highway, and the progressive clutch and the aforementioned high transmission make it easy to drive in traffic. The deeper front luggage compartment is reasonably sized at 5.2 cubic feet, and the shallower rear luggage area has increased by 4.4 cubic feet. 25 Years even achieved good fuel economy. If you believe the EPA, you can travel 19 miles per gallon. If you believe the trip computer, the fuel consumption is 19.3 mpg.

I now sound a bit like a door-to-door salesman, with all the cheers and compliments, I can say that you are preparing to seize the opportunity. Well, here it is: each Boxster Anniversary Edition requires at least six digits, which rises from the aforementioned base price to $105,710 (as far as the tester I choose). But even if you can swing payments, some people mention every example of the 1,250 year 25 year limit. Its number, right? Porsche has finally established the perfect balance between style, daily driving performance and back road advantages. It has priced itself in a range beyond the reach of people like you and me, but still manages to sell every unit it makes.

Nevertheless, Boxster 25 Years may be my perfect vehicle. It has all the auditory drama of GTS 4.0 without any comfort or design sacrifices (black accents are not my dish), and because of the loss of the optional integrated racing bucket and carbon ceramic brakes, the anniversary special edition is even It's cheaper than the Boxster I drove last year. It's just not better than this, is it?
